Dermabrasion is a surgical procedure that makes way for a new, smoother layer of skin to replace the skin that's been treated.
For centuries, skin rejuvenation has been considered the greatest art. It comprises different techniques aimed at the achievement of a more beautiful and younger look. The applied methods include dermabrasion and filling of wrinkles with soft either temporary or permanent preparations. These methods have revitalizing effects on the facial skin, restoring its freshness and softness. Small wrinkles and skin indentations may be eliminated, as well as less prominent scars resulting from acne or measles.
The surgery requires local anesthesia, special creams for smaller surfaces or combination with analgosedation for the whole face. The superficial layer of the skin which controls regeneration is being removed (its regeneration is being stimulated in this way). The procedure is performed by chemical mode (with different acids), by diamond dermabrasion or laser. The collagen mask is replaced every three days with six to eight days to be worn. Mask serves to prevent infection, to hydrate and nurture the young skin and to protect it from external weather conditions. Upon dermabrasion the skin becomes smooth and shiny. The first three months have pink color; during the following year, it receives the color of the surrounding skin.
Until the skin receives its natural color, the exposing to the sun should be avoided. Complications are rare, they may occur with smokers. One of the possible complications after dermabrasion is the possible appearance of stains (hyper or hypo pigmenting) on the facial skin, “ the zebra effect” which can additionally be removed by cosmetic skin whiteners. Dermabrasion should be performed in the late autumn, winter or early spring when the number of sunny hours is the smallest.
